Montana Notary Exam (New & Renewals)

Montana Notary Exam (New & Renewals)

Beginning October 1, 2015, new notary public applicants (i.e., those who have never been a Notary Public for the State of Montana and those whose most recent Montana notary public commission expired more than 30 days prior to applying for reappointment) must pass the Montana Notary Public Examination. The exam has 35 questions and will test your knowledge of Montana notary law and procedures. You will have 35 minutes to take the exam. To pass the exam, you must score at least 80%. If you do not pass the exam the first time, you may retake the exam. If you pass the exam, be sure to print off the Notary Public Examination Certificate, which must be attached to your Application for Appointment as a Montana Notary Public.

To help you pass the Montana Notary Public Examination, the Secretary of State provides comprehensive on-line training and periodic live training. The Montana Notary Handbook is also a useful tool for studying for the exam.
