HELENA, Mont. — After receiving strong bipartisan support in the Montana Legislature, photo voter identification is headed to the Governor’s desk. Senate Bill 276 enacts photo ID voting in Montana and elevates several forms of identification, providing Montana voters with a wide variety of photo ID options when voting.

“Voter identification is a nonpartisan, commonsense best practice, and I’m pleased that the Montana Legislature agrees,” said Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen. “Enacting these voter ID laws will streamline processes for election officials and provide a better election experience for Montana voters.”

Senate Bill 276, which received strong support from Republicans and Democrats in the Montana Legislature, particularly in Montana’s upper chamber, provides Montana voters with several photo identification options, including Montana driver’s licenses, U.S. passports, and military IDs. The bill also elevates tribal photo identification cards for Montana’s Native American voters.

“Enacting voter identification strengthens our voting process while ensuring every eligible Montanan has a voice in our elections,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “The Montana Elections Team is honored to serve our great state.”
