HELENA, Mont. — For the fourth consecutive month, more than 6,000 new business registrations were filed with the Secretary of State’s Office, said Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen. According to the Montana Business Economic Report, more than 6,200 new business registrations were filed last month.
“Montana remains open for business,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “Our pro-business policies continue to get government out of the way and let businesses thrive. I’m proud to support Main Street in Montana!”
Under Secretary Jacobsen’s leadership, Montana has boasted record new business registration in each of the past four years. In 2024, nearly 64,000 new businesses registered with the state. Montana is on pace to set a new record for business registrations in 2025. Almost 38,000 new business registrations have been filed through the year’s first six months.
Over the past four years, Secretary Jacobsen has cut red tape for Montana businesses, making it easier to do business in the state. Secretary Jacobsen cut registration fees in half for new Montana businesses and eliminated several other fees entirely. She waived the annual report filing fee in 2024 and 2025, and will do so again in 2026 and 2027, saving millions of dollars for businesses statewide.
Businesses can also file and access their documents 24/7 through the Secretary of State Office’s online filing portal.
“Congratulations to all the new businesses embarking on this exciting journey,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “Your passion and dedication will not only create jobs, but enrich our Montana communities, and we’re proud to support you on your journey. Thank you for doing business in Montana!”
