HELENA, MONT. — Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen welcomed Commander John Gilligan, Chief of the Boat Ernie Scott, Petty Officer 1st Class Jonathan Mossie, Petty Officer 2nd Class Kelly Beilfuss, and Petty Officer 3rd Class Jhony Xocuaurbano to the Montana State Capitol this week. The visit highlighted Montana’s connection to the USS Montana (SSN-794), the Navy’s newest Virginia-class fast attack submarine.
The USS Montana (SSN-794) represents the cutting edge in submarine technology. This nuclear-powered vessel, valued at $2.6 billion, spans over 377 feet and is equipped for multi-mission capabilities, including advanced stealth, intelligence gathering, and combat operations. The USS Montana will serve the nation’s defense for over three decades, carrying the spirit and pride of Montana wherever she is deployed.
Secretary Jacobsen expressed her appreciation for the crew, stating, “Thank you for your service to our country. On behalf of all Montanans, we are honored to have this connection to our Navy and appreciate the service of the USS Montana and her crew.”
“This visit strengthens the bond between the State of Montana and its namesake vessel, symbolizing a shared commitment to service and excellence,” Secretary Jacobsen added.
