HELENA, Mont. — Today, Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen joins election officials across the nation in celebrating National Voter Registration Day (NVRD), a day dedicated to encouraging all eligible Americans to register to vote and engage in the electoral process. Initiated in 2012, this annual observance highlights the importance of every citizen’s participation in democracy.
“National Voter Registration Day reminds us all of the critical role civic engagement plays in shaping our communities, state, and country,” Secretary Jacobsen said. “The Montana Election Team urges eligible Montanans to take this significant step toward their civic duty by ensuring they are registered to vote.”
Secretary Jacobsen reminds Montana voters to confirm their registration status and ensure that their personal information is accurate and up to date. Eligible Montanans can visit Secretary Jacobsen’s voter resources website, VoteMT.gov, to become #VoteReady by:
Registering to vote: Eligible Montanans who are not yet registered may complete Montana’s voter registration application and submit it to their local county elections office.
Confirming registration status: It’s essential that voters verify that their registration details, including name and address, are current. Only registered absentee voters will be sent an absentee ballot, making it vital to check and confirm their status beforehand.
Preparing to vote: During an election, voters can familiarize themselves with the offices and potential initiatives on the ballot. They can also access their sample ballot once it is available from their county elections office.
“Every eligible Montanan deserves to have their voice heard, and registering to vote is a crucial step in making that happen,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “On this National Voter Registration Day, I encourage Montanans to verify their voter registration information is current and accurate. Engaging in this important process ensures your participation not only in local elections but also in next year’s midterm elections. Thanks for voting, Montana!”
September is also National Voter Registration Month, which encourages citizens in Montana and nationwide to prepare to participate in the electoral process.
