HELENA, Mont. — Montana closed out 2025 with yet another record-breaking month of new business registrations, adding more than 6,000 new businesses in December.
Building on four consecutive years of historic growth, Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen’s pro-business policies have helped push new registrations in 2025 on pace to surpass last year’s record of nearly 64,000 filings. Behind those numbers are thousands of small businesses in construction, outdoor recreation and tourism, agriculture and value-added food, and technology-enabled services, each choosing to launch and grow in Montana communities.
“Every new registration is a Montanan helping our economy grow, from a construction company building homes to a local manufacturer or tech startup creating high-value jobs to an outfitter guiding visitors,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “These record filings reflect the work ethic, innovation, and grit that define Montana’s small business community.”
Montanans looking to start or grow a business can access online registration, filing tools, and resources through the Secretary of State’s website at www.sosmt.gov/business.
