HELENA, Mont. — During Monday’s monthly Land Board meeting, Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen voted to approve projects on Montana’s state trust lands that will benefit the state’s schools and other trust beneficiaries.
Secretary Jacobsen gave the green light to a timber sale in Lincoln County, generating revenue for Montana’s K-12 schools. The logging project will also promote forest health on the state trust lands.
Secretary Jacobsen motioned for the Land Board to approve improving services to areas of Montana, including replacing a severely outdated bridge in Sweet Grass County. Secretary Jacobsen also voted to guard against federal government attempts at closure and guarantee permanent access for recreationists to park and access public land in Missoula County.
“I’m proud to utilize my votes on the Land Board to generate substantial revenue for our state trust beneficiaries, especially our Montana schools,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “It’s important that we continue to support the timber industry’s efforts to supply timber for a wide variety of projects, while also decreasing fire hazards and promoting healthy forests by managing insects and disease.”
“As an avid user of our public lands, I was also proud to support protecting a parking area for recreationists to utilize year-round,” Secretary Jacobsen continued, “including the addition of a snow groomer storage shed that will benefit Montanans with Scenic Montana Trails, the Missoula Snowgoers, the Missoula Nordic Club, and more. I can’t wait to join you on the powder in Garnet atop Elevation Mountain!”
