Secretary Christi Jacobsen ‘eager and ready’ to further safeguard Montana elections

HELENA, Mont. — Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen penned letters to the U.S. Attorney General and Acting Commissioner of Social Security indicating Montana is eager and ready to enter an agreement with the White House to further safeguard Montana elections.

“Montanans have made it clear–they want elections that are safe, secure, and transparent, with only eligible citizens casting ballots,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “We’re grateful for the opportunity to work with the federal government and exchange data that helps protect the integrity of Montana’s elections.”

The partnership will allow the Commissioner of Social Security to assist election officials with verifying voter eligibility, including confirming whether individuals are already registered or deceased. Furthermore, the Attorney General’s Office will assist with prosecuting election crimes to “protect the franchise of American citizens and their right to participate in fair and honest elections.”
