HELENA, Mont. — Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen says a record number of new businesses registered with the state in April 2025. More than 6,700 new business registrations were filed last month, according to the Montana Business Economic Report.
“This record number of new business registrations for a single month is a testament to the thriving pro-business environment in Montana,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “Every new registration is an opportunity to create jobs, foster community growth, and positively impact our state’s economy.”
April’s data is the latest in a positive trend of new business registrations in Montana over the past four years. Since Secretary Jacobsen took office in 2021, Montana has had record new business registrations annually, with nearly 64,000 registered in 2024. In January, Secretary Jacobsen joined the Governor’s Office in celebrating the record.
More than 25,000 new business registrations were filed in Montana during the first four months of 2025, setting the pace for another record year.
Under Secretary Jacobsen’s leadership, the Secretary of State’s Office has increased efficiencies and made it easier to do business in Montana. Businesses in the state can file and access their documents 24/7 through the Office’s online filing portal. Secretary Jacobsen has also cut registration fees in half for new Montana businesses and waived the annual report filing fee in 2024 and 2025, resulting in significant savings for businesses statewide.
Secretary Jacobsen also fought against the Biden Administration’s burdensome small business mandates on behalf of Montana businesses. After urging President Trump to repeal the previous administration’s confusing and unnecessary regulations, Secretary Jacobsen joined businesses statewide in celebrating the suspension of the enforcement of the Corporate Transparency Act.
“Montana’s small businesses remain the backbone of our state’s economy,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “The Secretary of State’s Office is proud to partner with the Montana business community. Thank you for doing business in Montana!”
