HELENA, Mont. — Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen announced that more than 6,000 new businesses registered with the Secretary of State’s Office in February, setting a new record for the month and continuing the state’s strong trend of business growth.

“These numbers show that Montana’s entrepreneurs are powering our economy,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “Each new business represents a Montanan taking a risk, creating jobs, and investing in their community. I’m incredibly proud of their work and grateful they are choosing to do business here in the Treasure State.”

February’s registrations include entrepreneurs from every corner of Montana, from Main Street retailers and construction companies to agricultural producers, tourism operators, professional services, and tech startups. Small businesses remain the backbone of Montana’s economy, reflecting strong confidence in the state’s business climate.

Under Secretary Jacobsen’s leadership, the Secretary of State’s Office has focused on supporting business growth by cutting red tape, reducing costs, and modernizing online services. Registration fees have been lowered, unnecessary costs eliminated, and new digital tools introduced to make it easier for Montanans to start and maintain a business 24/7.

“Our team is committed to making it simple and efficient to start and grow a business in Montana,” Secretary Jacobsen said. “By lowering costs and improving online tools and resources, we’re helping entrepreneurs spend more time building their businesses and less time on paperwork.”

Secretary Jacobsen emphasized that Montana’s success belongs to its business owners. “From family-run operations and Main Street storefronts to startups and expanding companies, Montana’s business owners are the heart of our communities. Thank you for choosing Montana and keeping our state open for business.”
