HELENA, Mont. — Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen is honored to be selected as co-chair of the Business Services Committee for the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS). Secretary Jacobsen was selected after being recognized by her national peers for making it easier to do business in Montana – cutting registration fees, waiving and eliminating several other fees, and saving Montana businesses millions of dollars yearly.
“I’m deeply honored to be selected as co-chair of the Business Services Committee by my national peers,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “I take immense pride in our work in Montana, partnering with the business community, cutting fees, removing red tape, and allowing businesses to focus on growth rather than government bureaucracy.”
Under Secretary Jacobsen’s leadership, Montana has had record numbers of new business registrations in each of her years in office. Last year, nearly 64,000 businesses registered with the Secretary of State’s Office. Montana is on pace to break that record again in 2025.
During her first term as Montana Secretary of State, Secretary Jacobsen cut registration fees in half for new Montana businesses and eliminated several other fees entirely. She provided a fee waiver for all Montana businesses filing their annual report in 2024 and 2025.
The Mountain States Policy Center presented Secretary Jacobsen with its Elevation Award, which is “given to individual(s) who are committed to advancing and elevating free market principles and ideas. It is presented to a top innovator, business leader, or elected official in Idaho, Montana, and Washington.”
NASS Business Services Committee members educate and inform national peers about “state practices regarding corporate registrations, electronic business filings, notarizations, Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) filings, and other related services.”
“I look forward to continuing to work alongside the dedicated business leaders in our state to pave the way for future business growth and success,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “I’m proud to share Montana’s successes with my national peers on the Business Services Committee.”
