HELENA, Mont. — Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen gave the green light to projects promising economic growth and a bright future for Montana schools during Monday’s monthly Land Board meeting.

Secretary Jacobsen voted to approve five logging projects in western Montana and a trio of oil and natural gas agreements estimated to generate more than $10 million in revenue. Secretary Jacobsen joined her all-Republican Land Board in supporting the motions, which will benefit Montana schools and other trust beneficiaries.

“I’m proud to once again support responsible natural resource development in Montana with all of the revenue going right back to our state,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “Western Montana’s timber industry remains vital to reducing fire fuel, combating insects and disease, and generating revenue for our Montana schools. Thank you to our Montana timber workers for taking measures to keep our forests healthy.

“Eastern Montana’s oil and natural gas production continues to be crucial to funding our Montana schools,” Secretary Jacobsen continued. “I’m grateful for the workers in the oil fields and those behind the scenes for their efforts in providing tens of millions of dollars to our state trust beneficiaries.”

The May Land Board meeting generated estimated revenue totaling nearly $12 million, with more than $8 million benefitting Montana schools. Secretary Jacobsen and her colleagues also approved several easements across the state, improving services for Montanans.
