HELENA, Mont. — Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen is warning Montana businesses of multiple misleading mailings regarding an “Annual Minutes Statement” or “Corporate Meeting Minutes Annual Statement.” The mailings are not associated with the Secretary of State’s Office or any government agency and do not contain such a disclosure.
An example of the mailings can be viewed below.
Secretary Jacobsen provided an immediate Cease and Desist letter on behalf of Montana businesses.
“Our office has worked hard to save Montana businesses time and money so they can thrive and positively impact their communities,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “We will not let others deceive those Montana businesses through unauthorized, deceptive mailings.
“I will continue fighting to support the local businesses lining Main Street across Montana.”
Multiple Montana businesses have reported receiving one of the solicitations from entities such as MT Corporate Certificates or Corporate Document Service. Neither company is registered to do business in Montana.
The deceitful mailings urge businesses to complete a form and return it with a fee ranging from $140 to $159. Secretary Jacobsen emphasizes that these forms are not mandatory and that businesses should treat such requests cautiously.
Secretary Jacobsen has previously referred deceptive mailings targeting Montana businesses to the Attorney General’s Office.
If your business receives such a mailing and has questions or concerns, please email the Secretary of State’s Office atsosbusiness@mt.gov.
Secretary Jacobsen remains committed to protecting Montana businesses from potential fraud and deceptive practices. All communications from the Secretary of State’s Office are clear and legitimate, and never request checks or money orders. Montana businesses can access their documents and complete their filings using the Secretary of State’s online business portal at https://biz.sosmt.gov/.
