HELENA, Mont. — Constitution Day took center stage at the Montana State Capitol on Thursday, as Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen joined the Daughters of the American Revolution to celebrate the 239th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution.
“Constitution Day celebrates the ideals presented in one of our nation’s founding documents,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “I was honored to join my fellow Montanans to celebrate Constitution Day during our nation’s 250th birthday.”
Continuing her commitment to civic education, Secretary Jacobsen emphasized the importance of the Constitution and distributed copies to attendees, reinforcing efforts to make both the U.S. and Montana Constitutions accessible to all Montanans, especially students across the Treasure State.
Secretary Jacobsen concluded her remarks by announcing that the 2026 Constitution Contest is officially open to all K-12 students in Montana. This year’s contest features a new, streamlined submission format designed to make it easier for students to participate. Teachers simply submit a request for ready-to-use postcards featuring the prompt: “What does freedom look like in Montana?” Once the postcards arrive at their school, students write or draw their response on the card and simply drop it in the mail.
“This year’s contest gives students a fun opportunity to showcase their creativity without requiring any extra materials or resources,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “I look forward to seeing the wonderful submissions from students across Montana.”
In addition to the 2026 Constitution Contest, Secretary Jacobsen encouraged teachers and parents to mark their calendars for the 2026 YouthVote. This program helps students learn about voting and the electoral process. More information will be released soon.
