Secretary Christi Jacobsen announces historic month for new business registration in Montana

HELENA, Mont. — Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen announced that a record number of new business registrations were filed in July 2025. According to the Montana Business Economic Report, nearly 7,000 filings occurred last month, topping the previous monthly best of roughly 6,700 in April.

Nearly 45,000 new business registrations have been filed to date in 2025.

“Montana is open for business,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “The record number of new businesses registering in July is more than a statistic; each represents the flourishing entrepreneurial spirit in Montana. Every new business registration is an exciting first step in a journey that can positively impact the communities across Montana.”

Under Secretary Jacobsen’s leadership, Montana has experienced record new business growth in each of the past four years. In 2024, nearly 64,000 registrations were filed with the Secretary of State’s Office.
