HELENA, Mont. — Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen is giving back to those who serve our country.
As America celebrates its 250th anniversary and Veterans Day approaches this fall, Secretary Jacobsen plans to permanently waive initial filing fees for new businesses owned by U.S. veterans and active-duty military service members.
“Montana’s veterans and active-duty military members have answered the call to serve our country, and this is a small way to honor that service,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “We want to make it easier for these hardworking men and women to turn their ideas into successful Montana businesses.”
Once the rule is officially adopted, Secretary Jacobsen will waive the initial filing fee for a new domestic limited liability company (Domestic LLC) owned by a U.S. veteran or active-duty military service member. The initial filing fee for a new assumed business name (ABN/DBA) will also be waived for veterans and active military members.
Waiving these fees for veterans and active military members continues Secretary Jacobsen’s commitment to making it easier to do business in the Treasure State. During her first term, Secretary Jacobsen cut registration fees in half for new Montana businesses, helping make Montana’s business registration fees the lowest in the nation. This reduction has saved Montana businesses more than $6 million.
Secretary Jacobsen has also waived the annual report filing fee for all Montana businesses since 2024, saving them more than $15 million.
“Since day one, I have said that government should get out of the way and let businesses thrive,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “I’m proud to remove red tape, cut fees, and partner with the business community. Thank you for your service and for doing business in Montana!”
