HELENA, Mont. — Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen announced today that Montana entrepreneurs started more than 7,600 businesses in August, setting a new record for the month. The total marks an increase of at least 14 percent over August 2025.
“Summer is a time when Montana’s communities are alive with visitors, outdoor recreation, farmers’ markets, local events, and small businesses working hard to serve their neighbors,” Secretary Jacobsen said. “This record-breaking month shows that Montanans continue to turn good ideas into real opportunities.”
The record number of new business registrations in August reflects continued confidence in Montana as a place to launch, build, and grow a business. Across the Treasure State, entrepreneurs are creating businesses that support local economies, provide valuable services, and help preserve the independent, can-do character that makes Montana special.
“My office is proud to make it easier and more affordable for entrepreneurs to start and maintain a business in Montana,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “I congratulate every new business owner who chose to begin their journey here in Big Sky Country.”
The Jacobsen Administration continues to support Montana’s business community by allowing business owners to register and manage their business filings 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Secretary Jacobsen remains committed to providing entrepreneurs with efficient, accessible tools to register and maintain their businesses.
The Secretary of State’s Office regularly recognizes the people behind Montana’s business growth through its Montana Business Spotlight series, which has featured entrepreneurs ranging from locally owned bakeries and handcrafted jewelry makers to fitness studios, agricultural businesses, and businesses serving rural communities.
