HELENA, Mont. — Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen joined election officials nationwide in recognizing National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday, September 15. Celebrated annually, National Voter Registration Day encourages eligible Americans to register to vote, update their voter information, and prepare to participate in upcoming elections.
“National Voter Registration Day is an important reminder that every eligible Montanan has an important voice in the future of our state and nation,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “I encourage Montanans to take a few moments today to register to vote, update their information if needed, and make a plan to cast their ballot in the November General Election.”
With the November 3 General Election approaching, Secretary Jacobsen and the Montana Election Team, which consists of state and local election officials, remind voters to confirm that their registration information is current. Montanans can visit VoteMT.gov for trusted election information and voter resources.
Key steps for Montana voters include:
- Registering to vote: Eligible Montanans who are not registered may complete a Montana voter registration application and return it to their county election office.
- Checking registration status: Voters can verify their voter registrationand ensure their name and address are current. Maintaining accurate registration information is especially important for voters who receive an absentee ballot.
- Making a voting plan: Voters are encouraged to learn about the offices and candidates appearing on their ballot, review their sample ballot when it becomes available from their county election office, and locate their precinct and polling place.
“Montana voters have the opportunity to make their voices heard in every race on their ballots,” Secretary Jacobsen said. “Whether you are registering for the first time, updating your voter information, or preparing to vote absentee or at the polls, the Montana Elections Team is ready to provide the resources needed for a successful voting experience. Thanks for voting, Montana.”
September is also National Voter Registration Month, a nationwide effort to encourage eligible citizens to register, verify their information, and prepare to vote.
