Students continue to receive US/Montana Constitutions

BUTTE, Mont. — Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen visited Butte Central Catholic High School on Tuesday, delivering United States and Montana Constitutions to students.

Tuesday’s visit was the latest stop in Secretary Jacobsen’s effort to ensure Montana students receive a copy of the US and Montana Constitutions.

“It was a great morning meeting with students and staff at Butte Central Catholic High School,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “What a wonderful opportunity to discuss the significance of our US and Montana Constitutions, especially during Constitution Week.”

Secretary Jacobsen visited with staff and students, including Principal J.P. Williams and Elizabeth Borrowman’s government class. Secretary Jacobsen spoke about the importance of each Constitution, and entertained questions from the class.

“We will most definitely be using the copies of the Montana and US Constitutions in our class,” said Borrowman. “We are just getting started on the Constitution and this is going to be a great help to us. It was a great lesson for the kids to get to learn.”

“It was exciting to hear Mrs. Borrowman’s and the students’ conversation surrounding our Constitutions,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “I’m happy to see Butte Central implementing these important documents into its education.”

Last Friday, Secretary Jacobsen took part in a Constitution Day celebration in the Montana Capitol rotunda, announcing a partnership with the Montana Office of Public Instruction under the guidance of the Youth Voting Act. A new-and-improved YouthVote Program website was unveiled, and Montana students K-12 were invited to participate in the US Constitution Contest, “What does the Constitution mean to me.”

Friday marked the 234th signing of the United States Constitution. Constitution Week runs from September 17-23.
