Visits Dutton-Brady Schools, delivers Constitutions

Montana schools continue to receive US/Montana Constitutions

DUTTON, Mont. – Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen traveled to Dutton-Brady High School on Thursday, delivering more United States and Montana Constitutions to students.

It was Secretary Jacobsen’s third visit to Montana schools in September as part of her effort to ensure students receive a copy of the US and Montana Constitutions. Secretary Jacobsen previously visited Hamilton High School and Butte Central Catholic High School.

“Thursday was another incredible morning,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “Thank you to the staff and students at Dutton-Brady High School for welcoming me, and a special thank you to teacher Tom Tranmer for requesting the Constitutions for his classes.”

Secretary Jacobsen visited with Mr. Tranmer, Dutton-Brady’s social studies teacher, Superintendent Erica Allen and students, discussing the background and significance of the US and Montana Constitutions.

Tranmer says he looks forward to utilizing the Constitutions in his lesson plans.

“We think the Constitution is the most important document in our country, so in our education we use it in government, we use it in world history, we use it in US history and all of our social studies classes,” Tranmer said. “We make sure that our students are aware of our government and how it was created and why it was created that way, for the people.”

“One of my favorite things about these school visits is hearing how classrooms will implement the Constitutions into their education,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “I’m excited for the students of Dutton-Brady to learn more about the documents by which our nation and state were founded.”

The Secretary of State’s Office also presented the new Montana YouthVote Program. The Secretary of State’s Office has partnered with the Office of Public Instruction to provide Montana schools an opportunity for students to engage in learning more about our government.
